The 2H SPANASSURE™ system uses state of the art sensors and off-the-shelf products developed and deployed by 2H on numerous offshore developments.
The following parameters are locally recorded by standalone subsea data logging units, with data uploaded periodically via acoustic data link or hardwired to a topside data collection unit:
- Identification of buckling loads: Pipeline expansion and contraction are recorded using axial strain measurement sensors to identify longitudinal strains and likely buckling loads.
- Measurement of 3-D pipe curvature: Sensors record the shape of the pipe as upheaval or lateral deformations take place.
- Pipeline vibration detection: Motion sensors record magnitude and frequencies of oscillation through effects of subsea current induced vibrations (VIV).
- Pipeline fatigue estimation: Utilising global measurements taken by the system optional topside processing software is used to estimate the rate of fatigue damage occurring subsea. This data processing can also be carried out by 2H’s offices on-shore using raw data retrieved from the system.
2H’s extensive experience in finite element analysis & subsea structural design is used to identify critical areas for instrumentation positioning.
Benefits
- Constant review of critical pipeline integrity
- Evidence that pipelines are performing and responding properly
- Detects anomalies that cause excessive excursions and vibrations
- Can detect progressive structural failure enabling emergency procedures to be initiated and reduce possible impacts on safety, the environment and production revenue
- Provides essential data for the safe and reliable operation of subsea pipelines
