2H Offshore Completes CVA work for ATP’s Mirage Field Development

Houston,  April 2010

2H Offshore, an Acteon company, recently completed the design, fabrication and installation verification work for ATP in the Mirage Field, which is located in 4,000 ft water depth, offshore Gulf of Mexico (GoM) in Mississippi Canyon block 941. The development involves production back to a floating drilling and production facility via dry tree top tensioned risers. Two steel catenary risers (SCRs) are used for export of oil and gas processed fluids and a surface BOP high pressure drilling riser is used for platform drilling.

2H was nominated and accepted by the MMS as the Certified Verification Agent (CVA) for the riser systems on the Mirage deepwater development in August 2007. The scope of work covered the design, fabrication and installation of the export SCRs and the design of the production and drilling top tensioned risers. As the CVA, 2H ensured that the design, fabrication and installation of the riser systems complied with industry codes and standards. Typical activities carried out as part of CVA responsibilities included detailed independent analysis verification, review of project specifications, component designs and qualification test requirements, witnessing of key milestones during component fabrication, review of installation procedures and offshore witnessing of riser installation. 2H’s engineering office in Houston was responsible for the contract and the execution of this work.

“2H has completed a number of CVA projects for deepwater developments in the Gulf of Mexico with the Mirage development being one of the most interesting that I have been involved with to date due to the diversity and challenges of the work” says Pete Padelopoulos, Principal Engineer with 2H and Project Manager for the CVA contract.
