2H Offshore Educates Youth on Renewable Energy
2H Offshore engineers were recently appointed as science and engineering ambassadors to English youth in an effort to promote renewable energy education to the United Kingdom’s next generation of brilliant minds.
Glen Jewell, Ben Andrew and Nick Dale returned to the classroom to lead local youth at the Warwick School in Redhill, Surrey in the construction of large scale renewable energy devices. Students ages 13-14 were divided into teams and challenged in team working and basic engineering skills. During the day’s activities, 2H engineers led students in discussions about energy generation.
“As experienced professionals in deepwater engineering we feel it is our responsibility to inspire young minds to tackle difficult issues the world is currently forced to deal with,” said Glen Jewell, 2H senior engineer. “We’re hopeful that the more time we invest in our youth, the more capable they will be in the future in discovering new ways to generate an ever increasing demand for energy.”
2H’s effort to educate teens in engineering is registered and backed by Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network (STEMNET), a program aimed at encouraging young people to pursue careers in mathematics and engineering fields.
“It is something of a compliment that we have been entrusted to share our knowledge,” said Ben Andrew, 2H senior engineer. “At the same time it places a great responsibility on us to provide the education and activities that will inspire youth to continue their education and hopefully one day further our work.”
2H looks forward to returning next year and participating in similar events at other schools in the regions in which it operates.
